Old man with a staff

Old photographs from the private collections of the inhabitants of our Folwark.

The Second World War broke up our family nests. It scattered the inhabitants of Folwark all over Europe. After the war many inhabitants never returned to Folwark, and the post-war period did the rest. As long as witnesses are alive – and there are ever fewer of them – we must save the former inhabitants and our history from oblivion.

If you are interested in what changes time has made in our village, here you have the chance to remember how it used to be in Folwark, Vorwerk, and also in Folwark after 1945. How the inhabitants changed, how the surroundings changed. What is no longer there, what is new. In other words, history in photographs.

Most of the photographic documents are by Wilhelm Kiwus (039), who in those years was the only inhabitant with such technical means. I thank all the inhabitants who saved old photographs from destruction during the war, and also those who remembered these “treasures” during the flood of 1997.

I thank everyone for making the family keepsakes preserved to this day available to me and allowing me to use them!
