Wayside cross of 1888

Wayside cross of 1888 Wayside cross, side view Wayside cross, detail

On the back of the cross, in the lower part, we find information about the donors and the maker of this cross. (Donors: Johan and Johanna Chudalla 1888, made by an artist from Neisse – Nysa).

Most interesting are the four views of the same face. The photographs were taken by A. Zmarzły in December 2004.

From one small relief on the wayside cross in Folwark one can read so many different feelings that the artist expressed. I invite you to visit this place. I am sure you will see even more. We can present your impressions here if you let us know.

This saddened face can be seen from the right side of the plinth. In the background you can see the flood embankment on the Oder. The Hodne lake is hidden by a tree (an apple tree).

Relief, first view

Are you sad? Is that why you turn away?

Relief, second view

Is she looking at the suffering, or into the distance?

Relief, third view

Is it sadness, contemplation, doubt?

One relief? It seems to me there are four. The face? Surely the same. And what do you think? Such beauty on a wayside cross in Folwark. Take a look if it is on your way.
